"Crepe murder" is the common practice of hacking crepe myrtles back to stubs every winter. It scars the tree and produces weaker, floppier blooms. We use selective, detailed pruning instead — it takes more care, but the tree and next season's flowers are better for it.
When should winter services be scheduled?
Late fall into early winter, before the first hard freeze — that's when irrigation turn-off and dormant-season pruning do the most good.
